COSS participates OOXOPN Developer Day

COSS participates OOXPN Developer Day on Thursday 16th of April. COSS Director Ilkka Lehtinen will cover COSS and open source licensing in his keynote speech.

The idea of OOXPN is to get together with software developers, and have a fun day competing with each other in various coding challenges. There is also two presentations, and a workshop for those who might not want to enter the competitions. The event is targeted to software engineering students, but anyone else can join as well.

Nemein participates in Qaiku development

Nemein has made an cooperation agreement with Rohea about developing the Qaiku service.

 

Qaiku is a microblogging service, focusing strongly on discussion. Microblogging differs from ordinary blogging by the length of the posts, more topical content and automatically published micromedia, such as Flickr photo stream, Audioscrobbler stream etc. Allowed lengthier comments to the brief posts make discussion possible.

Tamlink Oy and the Technology Centre Hermia Oy merge

The Tampere University of Technology (TUT) and the City of Tampere have in their co-operative negotiations come to the conclusion that the business operations of Tamlink Oy and the Technology Centre Hermia Oy are to be combined as one entity; Tamlink.

COSS is operated by the Technology Centre Hermia Oy. This merge will most probably have no effect on COSS operations.

IT Mill into Partner Agreement with CodeCraft – IT Mill RIA Technology to SaaS Applications

IT Mill and CodeCraft have closed a partner agreement. With this agreement CodeCraft is authorized to  act as an independant, nonexlusive distributor and seller of IT Mill’s products and consulting services in Finland.

Press release: Ubuntu Users Satisfied With Summercode Results

Antti Kaijanmäki participated in the COSS Summer Code project and worked on improvements that make mobile networking in Linux easier. The users have praised the new easy networking features first implemented in Ubuntu 8.10. Kaijanmäki’s part is the clickthrough installation of mobile networking. Applications for COSS Summer Code 2009 open in January.

TKK and IT Mill cooperating

The Finnish RIA (Rich Internet Application) programming education takes a leap forward, as IT Mill offers its Mill Toolkit RIA development product for the Helsinki University of Technology. The tool is based on open source and it is used in RIA user interface programming education, where the students get the task to develop an open source RIA application.
