Mobiilipäätelaitteiden valmistajille ja operaattoreille suunnattu Sesca Ample on rakennettu avoimen lähdekoodin Qt-kehitysalustalle. Tämän vuoksi sitä voidaan hyödyntää kaikissa Qt:tä tukevissa alustoissa, kuten Linuxissa ja Symbianissa.

Kuuba on esitellyt oman versionsa Linux-käyttöjärjestelmästä nimeltään Nova. Novalla on tarkoitus korvata Microsoftin käyttöjärjestelmät maan tietokoneissa ja näin pysyä mahdollisimman hyvin Yhdysvaltain vaikutuspiirin ulkopuolella.

Openmind, a forward-looking international conference focusing on openness in business, technology and innovation, is held annually in Finland, the birthplace of Linux. Openmind is an open forum for 200 open source professionals, community members and academics.

The conference opens new horizons to software business and discusses the topical issues related to open source business and technology.

Openmind will be held on September 30th 2009 in Tampere in association with the MindTrek conference.

This seminar discusses quality concerns in open source software as driven by industrial adoption. The speakers will review the major quality evaluation models and discuss the challenges of open source quality assurance of certification. A special focus will be put on security issues. In addition, the speakers will discuss the relationship of open source and open standards.

FOSDEM eli Free and Open source Software Developers’ European Meeting on vuodesta 2001 asti pidetty vuosittainen kaksipäiväinen vapaiden ja avoimen lähdekoodin sovellusten kehittäjien konferenssi. Tapahtumaan on vapaa pääsy.

Helmikuun ICT-Werstaassa keynote puhujana Panu Mustonen (Ramblas
Digital) otsikkonaan ”Screens are taking over the city – How to build
them to be part of the city?”. Lisäksi Miikka Aira kertoo GoTampereen
näyttöprojektista otsikolla ”Uusi paikallisten asiakasvirtojen sähköinen
julistetyökalu”. Ohjelmassa myös paneelikeskustelu aiheen tiimoilta.

In this project COSS produced the document The use of open source software in public administration, which was published as an official Finnish Public Administration Recommendation on February 2009.

COSS produced an Open source procurement guide, which was published as an official Public Administration Recommendation. The recommendation aims to lower IT-buyers’ threshold to take advantage of open source software in public sector’s aquirements.
